Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold more than 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, making it PlayStation Studios’ fastest-selling game ever.
That stat includes pre-order sales of individual units, as well as units bundled with PlayStation 5.
Developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games, the followup to the 2018 game Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched Friday.
This third game allowed players to go back and forth playing as both Peter Parker from the original game and Miles Morales from the sequel and included a new “Web Wings” feature that made it possible to travel across an expanded version of Marvel’s New York City.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features iconic supervillains including Venom, Kraven the Hunter, Lizard and more from Marvel’s rogues’ gallery.
“Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences,” Eric Lempel, PlayStation’s senior vice president of global marketing, sales and business operations, said. “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac Games’ third installment in the franchise for PlayStation. Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build off the action, storylines, and features from the first two games. With an epic storyline, two playable Super Heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel’s New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours. On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans – we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure.”
